Views
What is a view?
A view is a display format that is used to interact in a particular
way with a specific managed object. A view may consist of a number of components:
- Title
- The title of the view is displayed on the title bar of the Web page and at the top of the page.
- View name and resource name
- This information is displayed at the bottom of a view below the work frame. It is always present.
The resource name is the name of the resource object associated with the view. Each resource object is
represented by a resource table.
- Message area
- This area displays any messages and contains a link to the messages help for the
message being displayed.
- Selection criteria and refresh area
- An area that allows you to set the context and scope, and other filters and selection criteria,
for the current display. See Dealing with Context and Scope and
Filtering Data Using Selection Criteria for further information.
- Form
- Area containing the requested information. A form is always present if there is data.
- Selection lists and entry fields
- Attribute and parameter values are entered on views using selection lists and entry fields as follows:
- Selection lists
- Selection lists contain a complete list of values available to the user for a given attribute
or parameter, on a view. A selection list enables you to select the appropriate attribute or parameter
value from a list.
- Dynamic selection lists
- Certain attributes and parameters in entry fields in task guides, tabular and detail views are capable
of generating dynamic selection lists. Such fields are marked with the Dynamic selection list icon,
,
to the right of the text input box.
- Entry fields
- Entry fields allow the user to type in an attribute or parameter value. Fields that are case
sensitive are marked with the Case sensitive icon,
.
- Links
- A link connects a field in one view with related information in another view.
- Annotation
- A paragraph explaining the purpose of the view.
- Action and confirm buttons
- Buttons to perform or confirm actions on the resources displayed in the view.
- Help link
- A link to your customized help for the view.
The information is displayed in one of the following formats:
Views can be printed. Click the Print preview icon,

to open a new window containing a printable version of the current display.
A view set is a number of related views that are used to manage the same
managed object.
